Sergio Pettis, 27, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, United States has been crowned as the new world champion of Bellator MMA in the bantamweight division. This is his third championship title as a professional mixed martial artist.
Pettis challenged then reigning Bellator Bantamweight World Champion Juan “Spaniard” Archuleta, 33, of Hesperia, San Bernardino County, California, USA in the main event of “Bellator 258” at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Montville, Connecticut, USA on May 7, 2021. It was the first title defense of the defending champion, who earned the title by defeating Patrick “Patchy” Mix, 27, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA on September 12, 2020.
Kevin MacDonald served as the referee of the “Bellator 258” main event. After five five-minute rounds, the title bout was left in the hands of the judges, who scored it 50-45, 49-46 and 49-46.
In the end, MacDonald raised the hand of Pettis. The challenger was declared the winner via unanimous decision.
It was Pettis’s third fight and third win in Bellator MMA. He now holds a professional MMA record of 21 wins and 5 losses.
Born in Milwaukee to a Puerto Rican father and a Mexican mother, Pettis attended Pius XI High School in Milwaukee. He is the younger brother of Anthony “Showtime” Pettis, 34, who is a former Ultimate Fighting Championship Lightweight Champion and now a Professional Fighters League athlete.
Sergio made his professional MMA debut on September 10, 2011. He competed in the UFC from November 16, 2013 to September 21, 2019.
When Sergio made his Bellator MMA debut at “Bellator 238” on January 25, 2020, he submitted Alfred “The Fearless” Khashakyan, 32, of Glendale, California. On July 24, 2020, the Milwaukee native defeated Ricky Bandejas, 29, of Brick, New Jersey, USA via unanimous decision at “Bellator 242.”

The reigning strawweight champion of ONE Championship is Joshua “The Passion” Pacio, 25, of Baguio City, Philippines. He trains out of Team Lakay in La Trinidad, Benguet, Philippines.
Pacio has been competing in ONE Championship since 2016. He currently holds a professional MMA record of 19 wins and 3 losses.
