The newly crowned Miss Eco International 2022 was born in Boracay, Malay, Aklan, Philippines. She is Kathleen Joy Paton, 24, a model and an actor of Filipino and Australian descent.
Paton is the second Miss Eco International from the Philippines. The first one is Cynthia Magpatoc Thomalla, 27, of Southern Leyte, Philippines, who was crowned in Cairo, Egypt on April 27, 2018.
On October 25, 2020, Tracy Maureen Perez, 28, of Cebu City finished in the Top 16 at Miss Universe Philippines 2020 at the Cordillera Convention Hall at the Baguio Country Club in Baguio City, Philippines. On October 3, 2021, Perez and Paton competed against 42 other candidates at Miss World Philippines 2021 in Olongapo City, Philippines.
Perez won Miss World Philippines 2021 while Paton ranked second, winning the Miss Eco International Philippines 2021 title. On March 16, 2022, the beauty queen from Cebu City finished in the Top 16 at Miss World 2021 in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Boracay is a resort island with a total area of 10.32 square kilometers. It is under the jurisdiction of three barangays of the municipality of Malay namely Balabag, Manoc-Manoc and Yapak.
Before becoming known as one of the best islands in the world, Boracay was largely an agricultural community. It was populated by Ati people before the Philippines was colonized by the Spaniards from 1565 to 1898.
As ordered by Philippines’ president Rodrigo Duterte, 76, Boracay was closed from April 2018 to October 2018 to solve the island’s worsening environmental conditions. In April 2019, several businesses owned by Chinese people opened in the island and around 300 mainland Chinese citizens moved to the island.
Miss Eco International 2021
Miss Earth Egypt 2014 Nancy Magdy, 28, hosted the Miss Eco International 2022 coronation night. It was held at the Jolie Ville Resort & SPA kings Island Luxor in Luxor, Egypt on March 17, 2022.
It was the seventh edition of the international beauty pageant. Including Paton, a total of 40 candidates competed for the crown.
The judges were Dr. Amaal Rezk, Fatma Elshazly, Hend Farouk, Hoda Kamal, Mahmoud Ghali, Dr. Bahy Hany, Farah Shabaan, Dr. Hossam Tahseen and Simone Kamel. The event featured a performance by Nour Abdel Salam.
Runner-up to Paton is Chloë Reweghs, 22, of Belgium. Jesaura “Jessy” Peralta of the United States, Lucia Morales of Spain and Prasana Shri, 24, of Malaysia are the respective second, third and fourth runners-up.
